Running the Ridgeway in support of charity

On the longest day of the year can 9 people run the entire length of the Ridgeway from Ivinghoe Beacon to Avebury?

Interested in helping or just want to keep up with what is going?

The Reason

Many people choose to enter a race to raise money for charity and get fit. According to fundraising.co.uk in 2013 77% of all fundraising events were running events. While a 10km race, half marathon, or marathon would be a good way to raise money we decided that running an iconic route as a relay would stand out more.

The Plan

The plan is to get a group of at least 9 runners, each running around 10 miles. Starting at 4am on the longest day of the year. The record for a single runner is 12 hours 25 minutes. As amateurs we expect to complete the run in around 16 hours.

The Team

The team is currently being assembled but will include at least 9 runners. A support rider to accompany each runner on a given leg of the route. Support drivers to deliver runners and riders to the start of their respective routes and to collect runners and riders ending their routes. A trained first aider will also be shadowing the race by road in case any runner gets into difficulty.

The Route

The Ridgeway is a national trail and a lot of information can be found on the National Trail Website including a plan of the route a copy of which is shown below.
